In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create a bootable USB pendrive using Rufus.
This method works for installing Windows, Linux (Arch, Ubuntu, etc.), and other OS ISO files.

The steps in this guide are based on the walkthrough video: YouTube: https://youtu.be/02spgVQgQos?si=dH0K1Y1x0t4PnDxj

What You Need

  • A USB Pendrive (Minimum 8GB recommended)
  • Rufus Software (Latest version)
  • ISO File (Windows/Linux OS)
  • A PC or Laptop

Step-by-Step Guide

1 Download and Open Rufus

  • Go to https://rufus.ie/
  • Download the Standard (.exe) version
  • Double-click to open (no installation needed)

2 Insert Your USB Pendrive

  • Plug in your USB drive
  • Rufus will detect it automatically

3 Select the ISO File

  • Click "Select"
  • Browse and choose your OS ISO file (e.g., Windows/Arch/Ubuntu)

4 Choose the Correct Partition Style (GPT or MBR)

If you already know your disk style → skip to Step 5.
If you don’t know, follow these steps:

How to Check GPT or MBR:

  1. Press Windows + X and click Disk Management
  2. Right-click your main disk (usually "Disk 0")
  3. Click Properties
  4. Go to the Volumes tab
  5. Check Partition Style
    • GPT → Choose GPT + UEFI in Rufus
    • MBR → Choose MBR + BIOS/Legacy

5 Configure Rufus Settings

  • Partition Scheme: Select GPT or MBR (based on previous step)
  • Target System: Rufus will auto-set based on your selection

6 Start the Process

  • Click Start
  • Confirm formatting when prompted
  • Wait until status shows “Ready”

Final Step

After completion:

  • Safely remove your USB
  • Use it to install or boot your OS
